Substance Abuse And Prevention A Priority

Written By Janno Damgaard Lassen

We are not living in the 60’s anymore.  Drugs have lost their innocence and have moved way beyond a vehicle for political expression.  Today’s drugs are hard, fast and devastating.  Substance abuse and prevention is a worldwide aim.  From marijuana to crack is a small step for someone who is seeking the next level.  The evolution of chemistry and technology has been a big boost to the drug smuggling business.  Programs for substance abuse and prevention cost billions of dollars to run.  The internet gives drug recipes.  Dodgy overnight pharmacies ship prescription drugs to any place in the world without a script.

The anti-drug slogan ‘Just say NO!’ has moved away from the drug scene is sharing the spotlight with abstinence from sex due to Aids.  Either way, this slogan was never enough for substance abuse and prevention tactics.  In truth, parents do not understand why their kids want to be part of substance abuse.  And prevention of such was never on the average parent’s agenda.  Parents don’t actually understand their kids.  The world of today is so different from the world you grew up in that your kids might as well live on a different planet.  New studies are released almost weekly highlighting the increased level teen substance abuse.  And prevention has become a priority in society.

Substance Abuse And Prevention Requires Honesty

You should ask yourself why a person would want substance abuse.  And prevention is seen as easy.  You need to be aware of problems facing your children and also their friends.  This requires communication.  The shock treatments, pictures of junkies with needles in their arms, only seem to promote curiosity.  This kind of substance abuse and prevention program does work for some but not all.  You should be honest with your children about the affects of drugs.  They may feel happy for a while, but drugs lead to low productivity, dishonesty and depression.  A good substance abuse and prevention program will emphasize these consequences.  If you took drugs when you were younger then share your experiences with them.

Life changed and your kids have free unlimited access to role models like Hunter S Thompson, who despite his frequent and heavy use of drugs became one of the most famous writers and political commentators of our times.  How will you explain this to your children?

Make sure that the information you give them does not contradict other sources.  This is where a tried and test substance abuse and prevention program can be a lot of help.  Just be honest and tell them the truth.  Give them examples of people you know who could not overcome their habits and ended up in dire straits.  It is easy for children to look at ‘role models’ like Amy Whinehouse and think ‘if she can be a pop star and smoke crack, then so can I.’  You should be able to explain such inconsistencies to your children.  If you cannot then join up with a substance abuse and prevention program that can.

How to (Almost) Effortlessly Quit Smoking

Written By Janno Damgaard Lassen

Most smokers would love to easily quit smoking, actually studies have shown that more than 80% of smokers would quit if they knew of an easy way to quit smoking.

I have personally been checking out how much people are searching online for ways to quit smoking easily, and have come up with a good number of results, but this is not an article on keyword research or the like, so I will not bore you anymore than say it is rather high numbers, and around new year its actually doubling up every year.

Most materials you find online is based around why you should quit, and the benefits of quitting smoking, and you really find a lot of great advice out there.

Every method will require some effort and willpower on your part, but the good news is there are ways that works, some better than others.

We are all different as individuals and not every method works for all people, so in order to find what works you may have to try several methods on your way to becoming a non-smoker.

As I have already mentioned there is a lot of material about why you should quit, but not much of it tells you how. Motivating you by just telling you that you are slowly killing yourself, doesn’t really do the trick. Actually it just hammers through the message that you are killing yourself to your subconscious, and most people realise that what they “know” to be true, tends to be just that, TRUE

Instead of telling you how you harm yourself, you would be a lot better off if you were told how to actually quit. And I have researched a few ways that really works, and if you go to the recommended page below, you will be able to read my recommendations for ways to quit.

The programs that really work, are not really to be found for free online. unless you do a lot of research, and put the information from a lot of different sites together, plus adds some creative thinking, that way you might be able to come up with a working solution, but that is a lot of hard work, not to mention the testing afterwards.

If you ever do, please let me know via the contact page at my site, and will be happy to review it and give you my honest opinion about it.

If you are serious about becoming a non smoker, you have to adapt a different attitude towards smoking, You have to change the way you think about smoking, in order for you to effortlessly quit smoking. Becoming a “recreational” or “party” smoker will not work either, you have to decide to quit once and for all, or you will just keep the nicotine dependency you have gotten from smoking.

However I will tell you right here that getting rid of the nicotine cravings is relatively easy to do, the hard part of becoming a non-smokers is breaking the habit patterns, and start thinking and feeling differently about smoking. Do that, and you can easily become a former smoker, and stay that way for the rest of your life.

Alcohol And Drug Treatment For A Better Life

Written By Janno Damgaard Lassen

When someone mentions the words drug addict or alcoholic, what images fill our minds? We think of scruffy old men slouching on park benches holding onto a bottle in a paper bag, taking swigs and slowly sliding into an alcoholic stupor for the day. Drug addicts bring images of dark alleys where furtive shapes move silently to ply their illegal trade.  Very seldom do we think about images that would hit much nearer to home or even of alcohol and drug treatment.

When last have you looked through glasses made of reality at a teenage gathering? There is more booze floating around than food. This is why alcohol and drug treatment must be kept in the open.  Teens are convinced they can only have a good time if they are so drunk they cannot remember where they are. By the time many of these kids hit college they need alcohol and drug treatment.  But nobody is prepared to admit to this very real fact. Another disturbing thought; who supplies these underage kids with the beers they swig back?  Why have we as a society become so casual.  The high numbers of kids who need alcohol and drug treatment should wake us up.

The tragedy is that the person who needs alcohol and drug treatment is the last person to realize that there is a serious problem. They have all the well-known excuses of being a social drinker, taking a drink to relax, deserving a drink to celebrate and many more.  The very last thing they mention is alcohol and drug treatment.

Alcohol And Drug Treatment Is Available To All

The bottom line is that alcohol and drug treatment is needed for addiction before your life is ruined completely.  This includes your love life, your family life, your career and finally complicates your health to the extreme that people die each year because they do not go for alcohol and drug treatment.

None of this is necessary if you go for help and get alcohol and drug treatment.  There are substance abuse centers everywhere. You can join a program though your church, your doctor or your local community center. People stand by each day to reach out a helping hand to guide you towards a healthy life free of the nightmare of substance abuse by providing alcohol and drug treatment.

The alcohol and drug treatment programs vary greatly.  It is best to research what would suit you personally.  Investigate the options and philosophies.  Each approach is unique.  Check on the qualifications of all staff members who will administer the alcohol and drug treatment program.

Am I Suffering from Depression Or Feeling Blue?

Written By Janno Damgaard Lassen

“Am I suffering from depression?”  Many ask this question.  But the answer may not be that you are.  Most people have their ups and downs.  Sad feelings are natural and not a bad emotion.  It is part of the human experience to feel sadness and happiness.  Without feeling sad sometimes you cannot feel happy at other times.  In fact if we were happy all the time then life would be quite boring.  Depression has symptoms though that you can identify.  So think before you make any decision to purchase antidepressants.  Think carefully about the answer when you ask am I suffering from depression?

Clinical depression is very different from natural mood swings but may still want to know am I suffering from depression?  People who are clinically depressed usually have insomnia.  This makes them even more irritable and grumpy.  They are short tempered and think suicidal thoughts.

Does this sound familiar?  Well those symptoms are often sited as symptoms of depression but in truth people who are clinically depressed have these feelings all the time.  Usually rational thoughts come back to us after a while.  Maybe something happens that immediately lifts your mood or you suddenly realize that all this negativity is the source of your frustration and you snap to a more positive mind frame and the depression goes away.  In this instance the answer to am I suffering from depression is a definite no.

Am I Suffering From Depression That Is Clinical?

Individuals who suffer from clinical depression are not able to life their mood or snap out of it.  Depression can be so bad that you cannot get out of bed.  There are people who cannot get out of bed for weeks and months.  By this stage there is no point in asking the question am I suffering from depression because they probably have lost all sense of reality.

Am I suffering from depression is a question that often must be determined by outsiders.  Clinical depression is an unbearable state for the sufferer and this is what gives rise to hopelessness.  Very often when someone else asks the question am I suffering from depression it becomes apparent that the sufferer needs help.  The consequences of depression can result in suicide and should be taken very seriously.  Am I suffering from depression is not a bad question for all of us to answer every now and again.  It is a good thing to assess your own mental health.  You must be one hundred percent honest and never ‘self medicate’ without seeking medical assistance.

Asking the question am I suffering from depression is a brave step.  If your emotional state does not improve in two weeks it is definitely time to consult with a medical professional.  Try to get the right answer to am I suffering from depression.  The right answer will come from a qualified professional.
